About this book:
I first discovered the power of these writing prompts when I was learning Coaching. In a group of 13 people, we took turns heading some creative activity at the beginning of each session. People came forward with games, guided imagery exercises, aerobics, and what not.
When it was my turn, I put together some writing prompts and gave them out to the people in the group. They had 15 minutes to write a short story or poem. Many of them bemoaned the task, saying they didn't know how to write or haven't written in ages.
The results were magnificent.
G., who says she hasn't written in over 10 years, came up with a complicated story about a young man entering a foreign city. The story seemed to flow out of her on its own--she continued telling it even after she finished reading out her passage.
O. came up with an amazing piece about a gift gnome that wouldn't have shamed any literary magazine.
M., our instructor, wrote a touching piece about guide dogs that left me in tears.
I went home that night marveling at the power of such exercises to ignite the fires of creativity in people, and determined to write more of them and publish the result. So without further ado, here it is, my collection of writing exercises and prompts. Because Anyone can write, and no one should miss out on the pleasure of doing so.
